How to paint ultramarine space marines?

Paint Ultramarine Space Marines | Tutorial

Although the figure that accompanies this tutorial is from Puppets War, it serves perfectly to explain how to get blue armor, like that of the ultramarine space marines, illuminated with a directed light (also called OSL). For this, we are going to use our acrylic inks, specifically the fluor acrylic ink green, to highlight this illumination. These matte finish inks can be used both with miniature paint brushes and airbrushes.

The focus of light, this time, comes from the viewfinder of our character's laptop, which reflects on the armor the greenish tone of the monitor. To achieve this, the whole armor has been illuminated with different shades of blue, reaching a very light blue. On that blue we have used our Intensity ink in white, to mark the edges, before applying the last layer of fluorine green on the areas most highlighted by the white.

Painters and wargame players increasingly use this technique, as it gives the final finish of the unit an extra touch of illumination, which is very interesting when playing games on tables with a lot of scenery. You can apply this technique not only on ultramarine space marines but also on scenery, vehicles, or parts of the terrain, where you want to imitate lights projected by flashlights, headlights, or any energy weapon.
