What is rust oxide texture?

Rust oxide texture or rust effect paint miniatures is a thick paste that mimics its real appearance. It is used to add realism to models, miniatures, and dioramas with details such as the wear of armor, the rusting of vehicles, or the decomposition of structures. It can be created with different materials, such as acrylics, latex, or resins. In the case of Green Stuff World ones, they are packaged in 30 ml bottles, and in our catalog, we have 3 different shades, along with a medium to imitate the passage of time in the materials in any context.

There are also liquid and paste products more or less equivalent and can create the same oxidation effect. The way to apply them is different since they are not thick pastes, but liquids that must dry creating earthy finishes or pigments that must be fixed with a pigment fixative. These effects do not have as much texture as the pastes and although they can be combined to create super realistic finishes, they do not have the same grain as the pastes.

How to apply rust effect paint miniatures?

To use it correctly, just follow these simple steps:

  1. Primer coat. Use a black primer on your figure, diorama, or model before using the product to prepare the surface and get an optimal result.
  2. Apply. Depending on the finish you want to achieve, use clay shapers, dry brushes, or a weathering brush. Once chosen, open the can of the product and apply the necessary layers on the surface to achieve the desired effect.
  3. Allow to dry. Drying time usually ranges from 5 to 30 minutes, depending on the amount of product used. Originally the oxide texture is thick, but you can use the medium to dilute it as appropriate for your project. This will also affect the drying time.
  4. Finishing touches. Wait until it is completely dry if you need to apply color or any other product over.
