If you are interested in seeing other Warhammer bases in this style, don't hesitate to take a look at the ice and snow bases tutorial to learn other techniques to create your own icy designs.

In fact, you can combine them to make your games more realistic. There are many games that have scenographies related to cold and ice, as it happens in Warhammer with the ice witches, the protectors of the lands of Kislev and masters of Ice Magic.

Therefore, it is in Kislev, where snow covers the ground for much of the year, where these witches dwell, united in a sisterhood of powerful women, as only women are allowed to learn this magic. They master the Ice Magic, they are the defenders of the region while preserving their ancestral traditions. But their main objective is to safeguard the magic at all costs, for which they jealously guard the ancient magical nexuses and sacred sites that channel this energy, attending to any threat that could corrupt or diminish it.

It is to achieve this goal that they guard Kislev, as they channel the Ice Magic that runs through the place and prevent great threats from reaching it. In addition, the ice witches are anxious that no Kislevite religion comes to possess the absolute power seen elsewhere in the Old World, for their kind would be in danger.

Another of the tasks of the ice witches is to teach magic to the few girls born with this gift, which they try to locate once a year by visiting Gospodar communities. However, so powerful is Ice Magic that many apprentices do not survive the training. But, the closer they get to this magic, the colder and more inhuman their character and way of being becomes, which is why they seem so enigmatic.

Despite the risks, ice witches are revered and respected figures in Kislev. Their power and knowledge are essential to the defense of the region and their influence extends to all levels of society. Even so, they are not exempt from criticism: forbidding men to become wizards, their close relationship with the nobility, and the use of magic to maintain social order; generates resentment in a sector of the population.

If you have decided to make an ice base for an ice witch or for any other character, diorama or model; make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials:

  • Green Stuff
  • Rolling Pin Frozen
  • Round Cutters for Bases
  • Acrylic Color MIRAGE BLUE
  • Gloss Varnish
  • Liquid Frost
  • Cyanoacrylate Glue
  • Matt Surface Primer - White

Making this ice base is very simple, just use the circular cutter in the putty to make a circle of the regulatory average for the game you need and print the drawing of the textured rollering pin. After a white primer, paint the stripes on the drawing with blue acrylic paints and miniature paint brushes of your choice. Once completely dry, apply gloss varnish to make the paint look more like ice and then a coat of Liquid Frost. After 24 hours drying time you can glue your miniature.

This ice base has been designed, assembled and painted by Dragonland, a talented contributor to Green Stuff World. You can see more of his work in other blog posts, so if you want to continue learning techniques to create your own realistic bases, dive into our blog and become a pro.
