Green Stuff World's Bile Sludge Effect paints allow you to create strands of slime, mucus, and viscous fluids with volume and a realistic finish on miniatures, models, and dioramas.
The Bile Slime Effect, also known as Bile Sludge, is a yellowish special-effects gel from Green Stuff World’s Slime Effects line, designed to simulate bile, slime, phlegm, and sickly-looking secretions on miniatures, dioramas, and modeling projects. Its thick, stringy consistency allows you to recreate viscous substances with texture and volume, adding a repulsive finish to monsters, creatures, and fantasy, horror, or science fiction scenes.
This bilious slime effect gel stretches into strands, ideal for depicting filaments of yellowish saliva between a creature’s teeth, mucus trailing from its mouth down to its chest, or sticky secretions clinging to its claws. Unlike an effect created solely with paint, it allows you to create three-dimensional details that protrude from the surface and connect different attachment points.
Bile Sludge is applied directly from the jar and, in its original consistency, does not drip, making for precise and controlled application. Its yellowish color is particularly well-suited for depicting bilious vomit on ogres and trolls, phlegm in the mouths of zombies, secretions from plague demons, or digestive fluids from alien creatures. You can also use it on the jaws of giant insects and inside carnivorous plants to simulate a viscous substance coating their mouthparts.
In addition to decorating mouths, teeth, and tongues, the bilious slime effect allows you to add small, pus-like accumulations to sculpted wounds, sores, and pustules. When applied between skin folds, around a wound, or on the belly of a mutant creature, it helps reinforce its sick or corrupted appearance. In set design, it can be used to represent organic debris in drains, monster nests, and experimental laboratories.
The amount of gel used determines the final look: from delicate strands of yellowish saliva to thick accumulations of slime and phlegm. Combine different thicknesses and application points to achieve an organic, irregular, and especially repulsive effect.
Use a toothpick to pick up a small amount of bile-slime gel directly from the jar and touch the area of the miniature where you want to start the effect. Place the product at that first point and gently stretch it with the toothpick until it reaches a second anchor point, leaving a filament connecting both surfaces.
You can use teeth, jaws, tongues, claws, and other details on the model as anchor points. For example, connect the upper and lower fangs of a zombie to simulate thick saliva between its jaws, or extend a thread from the lip to the chin of an ogre to depict traces of bilious vomit. On creatures with their mouths open, combine filaments between the teeth with small accumulations on the tongue and at the corners of the mouth to give continuity to the secretions.
To decorate wounds or pustules, place a small amount on the sculpted detail and spread it with the tip of a toothpick. Concentrate the product in the openings and along the edges of the wound, leaving part of the paintwork visible to blend the secretion into the creature’s skin.
Adjust the amount of product to create thin or thick strands. A small amount allows you to work with subtle strands, while a larger amount adds body and volume. Alternate strands with small accumulations at their ends to avoid a finish that’s too uniform.
For other applications, you can alter the texture and density of the bilious slime effect by adding a drop of Slime Effects Thinner. Add the thinner gradually and mix until you achieve the desired consistency. By making it more liquid, you’ll be able to spread it in thinner layers over a surface, rather than using it solely to form strands of slime. Keep in mind that dilution changes its behavior compared to the original gel.
Once dry, Bile Sludge can be painted with other acrylic effects to add nuances and tailor the secretions to your project. Green Stuff World’s True Blood fresh blood, for example, allows you to incorporate bloody details into the strands and accumulations—ideal for depicting saliva mixed with blood or accentuating the appearance of a monstrous creature’s wounds. Do a small test to check the finish on the yellowish base.
Keep the container tightly closed when not in use and work in a well-ventilated area. Before use, read the instructions and safety warnings on the product label.
