Transparent Crackle Paint

This is a fast-drying, water-based Paint that cracks as it dries, creating an eggshell cracking pattern in just 1 step. Apply directly from the bottle to the Surface. No need to apply multiple coats of Paint.

Crackle paints work because, as they dry, the surface layer shrinks and hardens faster or differently than the base or the underlying layers, creating internal stresses that the paint film itself cannot absorb; as a result, the surface breaks, cracks, and in many places lifts or shrinks, revealing the color or material beneath. The size and shape of the cracks depend primarily on the thickness of the layer, the elasticity of the base, the drying speed, and the difference in shrinkage between materials.

For this reason, it is important to help the cracks stay in the position where they formed without peeling off.

• For excessively smooth surfaces, we recommend sanding them slightly to add texture and improve adhesion.
• If you want to ensure they remain permanently in place, we recommend applying a layer of Tuft Glue to the surface before application, as this type of tacky-drying adhesive will hold the pieces in place.
• Finally, and this applies to all cases, after drying, to improve the adhesion of the cracks, a fixative or sealant should be applied to protect them from minor impacts during use or handling, such as decoupage medium, glossy varnish (for transparent pieces), or a mixture of white glue and water.

Apply directly or with a brush. Depending on the thickness of the application, it might get different sizes of cracks. Do not use a heat gun to speed up the drying process; just let it dry naturally.  Take into account that excessively irregular or very small surfaces may affect the size of the cracks.
