Zenithal OSL Face - Painting Tutorial

Zenithal OSL Face | OSL Painting Tutorial

As we said in a previous tutorial, if any technique has become popular in the hobby in recent years is the technique called OSL painting. It stands for Object Source Lighting, which refers to the technique of painting an object as if it were the light source itself and is often used in miniature painting to create dramatic and striking effects.

This technique requires a very exhaustive control of the color, most of the time using acrylic inks and airbrushes to achieve a credible and technically adequate final finish. In this tutorial, we want to show you another of the most dramatic techniques of OSL lighting, where the light source that reflects the face comes from the upper area of it, marking in an extraordinarily dramatic way all the features of the figure and enhancing the gesture of it to the maximum.

We will use our white acrylic ink as a base for the zenithal illumination with OSL painting. In this way, we achieve that the features of the face are very contrasted, accentuating its gesture. As a result, it gives the character an air of comic, very attractive for collection figures or figures for games.
