Metallic Acrylic Paint – Vivid Metal Color Series

GSW's Vivid Metal Colors series takes metallic finishes to another level, offering extraordinarily vivid, intense colors that are hard to find in the world of model making. These almost unique shades provide a striking metallic sheen thanks to their intense colors, adding a distinctive touch to any miniature, model, or scenery piece.

Formulated with the highest quality ultra-fine pigments, these pearl-based metallic paints provide a truly stunning metallic effect, guaranteeing professional results even on small or highly detailed surfaces. Their coverage, combined with fast drying, allows you to work comfortably and efficiently.

They can be combined with each other or with other paints and auxiliary products such as varnishes, although it is recommended to use gloss varnish, satin varnish, or our chrome varnish. They can also be combined with our range of Candy Inks or our range of Interference or Metal Filter paints:

• They can be used together with candy inks, due to their high transparency and shine, acting as color filters on metallic surfaces, gems, crystals, or lights, allowing you to modify and enhance the base metallic tone without losing definition. By applying a very thin layer of ink to the already painted metal, you can achieve unique color variations—intensifying reds, greens, blues, or intermediate shades—for vibrant and deep visual effects.
• They can also be used in conjunction with the range of metal filters, which provide reflections that change depending on the angle of the light, generating pearly or iridescent sparkles that transform the metallic finish into something much more dynamic. This combination allows you to create striking special effects, from armor with changing sparkles to details with an almost magical appearance, producing results that stand out both on the table and in the display case.

How should Vivid Metallic Paints be applied for the best results?

As with most metallic paints, we strongly recommend priming the surface in black before applying the Vivid Metal Color Series. A dark undercoat helps the metallic pigments stand out much more clearly, increasing depth, contrast, and visual intensity. This is especially important with vivid metallic shades, as the black base makes the colors look richer, brighter, and more dramatic while preserving the reflective quality of the finish.

• For brush application, the best approach is to apply 3 to 4 thin coats, gradually building up the pigment until the desired color intensity is reached. Working in thin layers produces a smoother, cleaner finish and allows the metallic effect to develop progressively without obscuring surface detail. Let each coat dry before applying the next one, and avoid heavy applications, as several light layers will always give a more attractive and controlled result.
• For airbrush application, the paint should be slightly thinned before use, and it is also recommended to build up the effect with several light coats rather than one heavy pass. Very easy to use this way.
• For dry brush application, always begin with a black base coat, as this will make the metallic pigments appear much brighter and more dramatic on raised areas. Load only a small amount of paint onto a dry brush, wipe off the excess on a paper towel, and then lightly drag the brush across the surface so the color catches only the edges, textures, and greatest details. This technique creates a very vivid and eye-catching metallic highlight effect, making it especially effective for armor, machinery, scenery, weapons, and decorative elements, while preserving shadows and adding strong contrast with minimal effort.

The Vivid Metal Color series is water-based and completely non-toxic, and is optimized for use with both brushes and airbrushes. For optimal performance with an airbrush, we recommend starting with a 1:1 dilution with acrylic thinner.

Each bottle includes a stainless steel ball to ensure a homogeneous mixture that is ready to use in seconds.
