Corvus Cabal Shrike Talon

The Corvus Cabal Shrike Talon I painted was inspired by the Laughing Kookaburra and the Blue-winged Kookaburra. I wanted to adapt a colour scheme using reference photgraphs of these birds as they are animals that I have always been quite fond of with quite distinct colouring and patterns of their own.

Metal

Though many fantasy modelers prefer non-metallic metals, I really like metallic paints and how they look. The metals were all painted using the true metallic metal technique, which borrows the ideas of controlling light and reflection from the NMM technqiue to create a similar look but with metallic paints.

Leather

I painted the leathers in a worn red-brown to bring some contrast to the miniature whilst retaining visual harmony with the overall piece.

Wood

This is a technqiue I learned from Darren Latham's excellent Lord of Blights Masterclass. I turned up the use of moss on the wood to anchor the model in the environment in which I imagined he would be in.
