Ork Looted Imperial Knight

Starting a new project and it is going to be growing little by little, and I will try to post here all the steps that I will take, in a highly detailed way. This is about converting an Imperial Knight of Games workshop into something more ... orky.

Legs

Like all projects, we have to start with the foundations: in this case, by the legs.

I start by removing with cutter the imperial symbols of the leg protectors and adding in their place ork pieces (rough protectors, glyphs, plates)

Before gluing these protectors to the legs, I paint them on the internal faces, where the brush or spray will hardly reach.

Now, a somewhat more complicated part: to gain a little more dynamism for the miniature, I will reposition the other leg so that the posture will be not typical of two feet on the ground. To do this, before gluing the two halves, I cut them at the height of the joint and fill the gap with putty, to have an area where to firmly anchor both parts in the new position

I must also reposition the union of the leg to the hip, cutting the base anchor that brings (and which limits the position) and anchoring it in its new position. I also fill the gaps in the "feet" with putty to give more surface adhesion to the ground. And finally, we can verify that the new position fits perfectly on the base.

Now I prepare the base properly, with the anchor areas of the legs well marked to avoid covering them when I start to put tons of debris and rocks all over the base

Finally in this stage, I could not resist to put a small detail: a copy-paste of gnoblar and gretchin parts to place the first "assistant" performing their functions (whatever they are)

And so far for now, I hope to post new progress soon.

Base, Texture and body

New update of my Looted Imperial Knight (has taken longer than I would have liked ...): finishing the base and physical texture of some areas (rust, mud, etc.).

For the base, which was already more or less defined, I have limited myself to adding more elements (a cogwheel, a huge cable, more rocks) and to cover the whole with very fine sand and PVA glue, to homogenize the terrain.

p1

First, black priming with GW spray

p2

Now, a pre highlight with White spray, from a frontal and zenith angle.

p3

I give some brown washes to achieve the main tones and other green and turquoise washes near the metallic elements half-buried in the sand.

p4

Highlight the upper areas of the rocks with a clearer and more intense brown.

p5

Finish the highlights of the previous brown, as well as the metallic elements and the small skull.

p6

I apply a thin layer of reddish pigments to the whole set, with AK pigments.

p7

For giving texture of the IK´s legs, I repeat my mixture of very fine sand, talcum and PVA glue, and apply it carefully in the areas that I want to texturize, blurring the edges of the sand mixture a little with a clean brush (to avoid a very sharp limit).

And this is the final appearance of the legs on the base, already primed in black and ready to be painted.

But before start painting the legs, I decide to get into the IK´s body, mounting it and adding some more Ork glyphs.

Another thing I like to do when I assemble such large pieces is, if possible, to reinforce the joints between these pieces inside with putty.

Also, I wanted to use an ork pilot from Kromlech to handle the IK. The miniature is great, and the idea of a pilot driving that huge war machine with a simple Joystick was irremediably ... orky.

To make sure it fit perfectly, I made a kind of cavity with putty under the hatch and, before it hardened, I nodded the miniature. Thus, it will have a perfect surface to stick to.

And for the moment I leave it here. I hope to return soon with more advances.
