100 Year Old Hangover - Winnipeg General Strike 1919

Alternate history of events inspired by the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919.

My work has been inspired by the writings of little-known Winnipeg Historian M. Norman Bas. Dr. Bas was active in the early half of the 20th century, and as a recent immigrant himself, he had unique access to many of the Ukrainian workers actively involved in the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919. One individual in particular, Mykhailo Koleshar, was a wealth of information regarding the less than optimal working conditions of the Vulcan Iron Works where he was a day labourer. Koleshar also told Dr. Bas of a curious 'secret project' at Vulcan Iron Works which Bas found hard to believe. The Dominion Government had been engaged in a top secret wartime effort to create an Iron Golem. The Armistice put an end to the project but the Vulcan Iron Works Mk. I had been finished and was mothballed at the grounds of the Iron Works. Stored in an unused warehouse, the Mk. I was kept hidden from prying eyes until the chaotic events of Bloody Saturday, June 21st, 1919, when desperate workers brought the behemoth to life with their illicit homemade vodka. The Iron Golem was responsible for much of the destruction on that fateful day, but for 100 years the government has been successful in covering up this information... until now. Using Dr. Bas's writings as a guide, along with some rough drawings by the labourer, Koleshar I present to you "The 100 Year Old Hangover" a faithful recreation of the aftermath from that bloody day.
